Things are getting clearer across the college football landscape, as Alabama manhandle Texas A&M to remain to only undefeated team in the SEC, while Ohio State inexplicably lose at Penn State, leaving the path towards a division title in the Big Ten east wide open for a dominant Michigan team, having no trouble against Illinois. Washington looked dominant again and a class above the rest of the Pac-12, while West Virginia continue their surprising season, although Oklahoma’s offense could be something they struggle with when it’s time to face the music.
#6 Texas A&M (6-1, 4-1) 14 #1 Alabama (8-0, 5-0) 33: This might be the closest you can play the Crimson Tide this season, especially in Tuscaloosa. Two touchdown passes from Trevor Knight gave the Aggies a short lived lead early in the second half, but anytime someone angers Alabama, they come back stronger and meaner, scoring 20 consecutive points, to brush off what might have been their most serious opposition.
#2 Ohio State (6-1, 3-1) 21 Penn State (5-2, 3-1) 24: By pretty much every start, Ohio State should have won the game. But their coaches made some weird decisions, their special teams got outplayed, and Penn State blocked a field goal, turning it into a touchdown run by Grant Haley after a 60-yard return, ruining the undefeated hopes of Ohio State, while laying the groundwork for what the Nittany Lions believe will be a signature win to build on.
Oregon State (2-5, 1-3) 17 #5 Washington (7-0, 4-0) 41: this game was never close, with Washington leading 31-0 before the Beavers got on the board. Jake Browning threw 3 touchdown passes and ran for another. Dante Pettis caught two passes for a touchdown.
Illinois (2-5, 1-3) 8 #3 Michigan (7-0, 4-0) 41: The Wolverines continue to abuse their opponents, holding the Illini to just 172 offensive yards, as Michigan led 34-0 before things changed just a little bit. Wilton Speight threw a couple of touchdown passes.
North Carolina State (4-3, 1-2) 13 #7 Louisville (6-1, 4-1) 54: Lamar Jackson threw for 3 touchdowns and ran for another in another Heisman-worthy performance from the Cardinals quarterback, helping Louisville to a 44-0 lead before easing up a little bit. The Wolfpack gave Clemson a lot more trouble, never looking like someone worthy of facing Louisville at any point during the game.
Purdue (3-4, 1-3) 14 #8 Nebraska (7-0, 4-0) 27: A slow start from the Huskers allowed Purdue to take a 14-10 lead at halftime, but a big 40-yard touchdown play with Tommy Armstrong and De’Mornay Pierson-El brought the lead back, holding the Boilermakers scoreless in the second half.
#10 Wisconsin (5-2, 2-2) 17 Iowa (5-3, 3-2) 9: The Badgers get back to their winning ways in a tough game, holding the Hawkeyes to just 236 yards of offense and 0 touchdowns. Corey Clement had a big day on the ground with one touchdown and rushing for 134 yards.
#11 Houston (6-2, 3-2) 16 SMU (3-4, 1-2) 38: A shocking win, as SMU beat a ranked team for the first time in five years. They led 21-0 before the Cougars got on the board, but besides Greg Ward, Houston had nothing to offer, in a season that is turning into a disappointing one instead of something historic.
TCU (4-3, 2-2) 10 #12 West Virginia (6-0, 3-0) 34: Morgantown was jumping to the four touchdown passes from Skyler Howard and a defense that forced three turnovers, as West Virginia seem to be on their way to their best season since joining the Big 12.
BYU (4-4) 27 #14 Boise State (7-0) 28: Probably the most difficult game the Broncos will face all season, and it was a weird one, decided on a Jeremy McNichols touchdown with 10:37 to go. BYU forced five turnovers, twice turning interceptions into touchdowns, but their offense was outgained by 250 yards, and couldn’t finish when they had the chance.
#16 Oklahoma (5-2, 4-0) 66 Texas Tech (3-4, 1-3) 59: The duel between Baker Mayfield and Patrick Mahomes ended in a knockout win for the Sooners, as Mayfield threw for 7 touchdowns while Joe Mixon ran for 263 yards and a couple of touchdowns. Mahomes also ran for two touchdowns, but with no defense whatsoever it’s impossible to beat good teams.
#19 Utah (7-1, 4-1) 52 UCLA (3-5, 1-4) 45: A 13-0 second quarter helped the Utes back into the game after a strong start by the Bruins, but it wasn’t until a 64-yard touchdown run by Joe Williams to end the quarter that they had full control of the game, moving closer towards what could be their first ever Pac-12 south division title. Williams finished with four touchdown runs and 332 rushing yards.
Eastern Michigan (5-3, 2-2) 31 #20 Western Michigan (8-0, 4-0) 45: Eastern Michigan had a surprisingly strong start, but at some point the best team in the MAC got the seperation they were looking for, with Zach Terrell throwing 3 touchdown passes and Jamauri Bogan running for a couple.
#17 Arkansas (5-3, 1-3) 3 #21 Auburn (5-2, 3-1) 56: A hit in the face for the Razorbacks in possibly their worst game in the Bret Bielema era, held to just 215 yards while giving up over 630. Auburn ran for 543 yards, including Kamryn Pettway with 194 rushing yards and two scores.
#22 North Carolina (6-2, 4-1) 35 Virginia (2-5, 1-2) 14: This rivalry game has seen better days, but the Tar Heels don’t mind, winning the South’s oldest rivalry for the 7th straight time. Mitch Trubisky threw 3 touchdown passes as North Carolina remain in the picture for the ACC title game.
Memphis (5-2, 2-1) 28 #24 Navy (5-1, 4-0) 42: The Midshipmen took another huge step towards making some history, as quarterback Will Worth threw two touchdown passes and ran for 3, as Navy finished with an incredible 447 rushing yards, remaining undefeated in conference play.
#23 Ole Miss (3-4, 1-3) 21 #25 LSU (5-2, 3-1) 38: The game was tied at 21-21 heading into the second half, but Ole Miss, not for the first time this season against a ranked team, didn’t show up, mostly unable to stop Leonard Fournette, who ran for two touchdowns, both over 76 yards long.
