Jack Gleeson, the man behind King Joffrey’s slappable face on Game of Thrones, doesn’t want to be famous and even plans to quit acting. But his speech on celebrity culture at the Oxford Union might make you rethink what you know about him.
On the one hand, Gleeson makes some good points; celebrity culture is weird. It’s not a normal thing and it’s kind of refreshing to someone going through it acknowledge it as such.
On the other hand, you just got gifted a couple million dollars to play a boy king on TV when you were in high school and college. You probably don’t have to worry about money because of acting and celebrity culture. So how about just riding the wave and not being so contemptuous towards something most people, let alone the people who chase these dreams for decades to no avail, consider a gift?
Classic King Joffrey. Finding reasons to make us hate you even when you’re being smart and genuine.
