Camille Muffat Camille Muffat Winning Her Gold Medal in the London Olympics


The death of Camille Muffat, the 25 year old French swimmer, a gold medalist winner in the 2012 Olympics in London, came as quite a shock and fills the world of sport with sadness for the premature passing of a very talented young women.


Muffat was part of a group of French athletes participating in the filming of a reality show called ‘Dropped’. Two helicopters crashed above Villa Castelli in North-West Argentina, and among those that dies in the incident are sailor Florence Arthaud and Olympic boxer Alexis Vastine.

Muffat participated in the 2008 & 2012 Olympic games. In 2012, she won the gold medal in the 400 meter freestyle event, silver for the 200 meter freestyle and bronze in the 4×200 meters freestyle relay. She also has four Bronze medals from the world championships in 2011 and 2013.


In 2013, Muffat was made a Knight (Chevalier) of the Légion d’honneur. She was the third Frenchwoman to win three medals in a single summer or winter Olympic Games.
