There’s no middle ground in the memes covering the days leading up to the Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao fight. It’s not about the great spectacle finally happening, but about who is going to win.
Mayweather is the favorite. He’s undefeated, he’s usually barely scraped in bouts, and although he has done his best to avoid fighting Pacquiao, simply going by his record not just in his career but over the last few years, he probably is the better fighter in this matchup.
But obviously the more hated one. Mayweather, a convicted women beater who doesn’t answer questions about the subject, also said he is greater than Muhammad Ali. Has his arrogance crossed into a new dimension? Probably. He even has Mike Tyson angry with him.
Pacquiao is a kind of fighter Mayweather hasn’t faced before. Five or four years ago, he probably would have had a lot more people believing in his ability to win. But now? Far less than before, but maybe that will make his victory, if and when it happens, a lot more sweeter.
