After a promising start, Kostas Papanikolaou got injured and didn’t have the kind of rookie season he was hoping for. Now, he’s left wondering whether or not the Houston Rockets keep him for another season.

Papanikolaou has contract for next season, but it’s a team option. In a recent interview on television, Papanikolaou (24, small forward), revealed he’s not worried, but he knows his deal for next season isn’t a guaranteed thing.

As you know there’s a team option. They said to me that they want me to stay, that I am a part of the team. However the future in the NBA is always changing. You never know how things may get. You can be out of the team in no time. There’s a deadline for the option until the 29th of June. Talks are going to be made, the draft will take place. I have to have patience.

It wasn’t a bad season for Papanikolaou, but he played in just 43 games because of an injury and didn’t get to take part in the playoffs. He averaged 4.2 points per game in 18.5 minutes a night and really struggled on defense, but had his shining moments from time to time.

The question is whether or not the Rockets think those shining moments are worth paying him $4.6 million next season. It’ll probably depend on what kind of player they land in the draft.
