It’s not quite clear what the Toronto Raptors are planning and hoping for next season, but it does seem to include a whole lot of point guards after signing Cory Joseph off of the San Antonio Spurs, joining Kyle Lowry, Greivis Vasquez and rookie Delon Wright.

Earlier in the offseason assumptions were made about the Raptors, who possibly have hit the ceiling with this current roster, and suggestions were floated around, including trading Kyle Lowry and DeMar DeRozan. For now, that’s not happening. Not even close.

The Raptors have lost Lou Williams, but that’s not much of a loss considering they weren’t planning on offering him a new deal. They’ve signed DeMarre Carroll, Bismack Biyombo and now Joseph. The first two signings make sense for a team clearly trying to improve defensively. The second one, for four years and $30 million, is a little bit more baffling.

Lowry, at the moment, is the starting point guard. He played 34.5 minutes a night last season. Vasquez was his backup, but he can play the shooting guard position as well and even be the big guard in a three-guard lineup. Delon Wright out of Utah is a combo guard, but mainly a point guard, which means the Raptors are either going after the Suns approach of two point guards a lot of the time (what about DeRozan) or are we actually going to see someone traded in order to make room for Joseph and Wright?
