One of the trickiest and unclear quarterback situations this preseason belonged to the Buffalo Bills, but things were made clearer with every game that went by, eventually resulting in Matt Cassel being released.
The 33-year old with 71 starts in 10 NFL seasons, playing for the New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs and Minnesota Vikings, cost the Bills two draft picks (fifth and seventh round) but turns out he’s not good enough in a quarterback stable that includes Tyrod Taylor and EJ Manuel.
Cassel actually started last season as the starter for the Vikings over Teddy Bridgewater, but he played three games and broke his foot, resulting in the rookie taking over, and both he and the Vikings never looked back.
Cassel has 15,727 passing yards in his career, throwing 91 touchdowns and 70 interceptions, posting an 80.1 passer rating. He’ll now be waiting for a team that’s desperate for some sort of addition at quarterback, although the end of the road for him in the NFL seems closer than ever.
