Billy Cundiff

The Buffalo Bills are unhappy with Dan Carpenter and his misses in the preseason, which has them working out Billy Cundiff, who last played for the Cleveland Browns.

Cundiff worked out for the Bills which puts pressure on Carpenter, who missed three field goals and an extra point in three preseason games. Rex Ryan, never one too shy with words or criticism of his own players, hasn’t been hiding his displeasure with Carpenter’s performances.

Certainly, we’ve got some issues. I mean, hell, we can’t make a field goal. So we better be looking for every, any guy that’s ever kicked a football in his life will get an opportunity here. I’m tired of seeing us missing field goal. Tired of seeing us, you know, we’ve got a kickoff guy, and we miss field goals. Like, I don’t get it. So we’ll certainly be looking out there. I don’t know if there’s any out there, but nobody gets this job by default. And certainly you’ve got to earn your way out here. So I’m very disappointed in that, and I don’t care who knows it.

Carpenter has been the kicker for the Bills over the last two seasons, performing quite well. He made 89.5% of his field goal attempts last season, including 6-of-8 from over 50 yards and 13-of-16 from 40 yards or longer, and his accuracy is 90.5% since joining the Bills in 2013.

Cundiff, a 13-season veteran, played last season with the Browns, making just 75.9% of his field goal attempts and only 60% of his attempts from 40 yards or longer.
