The results of week 9 in the 2015-2016 Premier League season give us another week of Manchester City and Manchester United at the top two spots of the table following impressive wins over Bournemouth and Everton respectively. Liverpool with a new manager drew 0-0 at White Hart Lane against Spurs, Arsenal looked very good against Watford with an away win and Chelsea got back on the horse with a victory against Aston Villa.
Tottenham 0 Liverpool 0: The Jurgen Klopp debut didn’t go too badly considering all the missing players, with Simon Mignolet making some fantastic saves, and Divock Origi on the other side having one incredible miss.
Chelsea 2 Aston Villa 0: The football is far from great and the lack of confidence is easily showing, but a win is a win, thanks to an Alan Hutton goal and Diego Costa finding the net.
Manchester City 5 Bournemouth 1: Raheem Sterling has been good this season, but in the absence of Sergio Aguero and David Silva, he kicked up a notch to great, scoring a hat trick while Wilfried Bony added a brace after talking about his poor form since joining the club. Glenn Murray netted one for the visitors.
Southampton 2 Leicester City 2: A wild and entertaining match, with Southampton taking a two goal lead through Jose Fonte and Virgil van Dijk, but there’s not football hotter in the Premier League than Jamie Vardy right now, putting his team back in the picture after 66 minutes and equalizing dramatically in the 91st minute.
Everton 0 Manchester United 3: The Everton defense was non-existent on a day that began with the news of Howard Kendall passing away, and carried on with the team’s current generation unable to draw some inspiration from the passing of the club’s greatest manager. Morgan Schneiderlin and Ander Herrera scored twice within four minutes to make the visitors comfortable, and Wayne Rooney scored his first goal at Goodison Park in eight years in the 62nd minute.
West Brom 1 Sunderland 0: It’s hard to decide whether it’s tragic or comic the things that happen to Sunderland. This time a foolish mistake by Costel Pantilimon allowing Saido Berahino to score in the 54th minute, while things got tense in the finale after James McClean, a former Sunderland player, celebrated in front of the travelling fans and was confronted by Danny Graham and Lee Cattermole.
Crystal Palace 1 West Ham 3: As always, West Ham thrive away from home. This time a Carl Jenkinson goal opened things before Yohan Cabaye equalized. A foolish lunge by Dwight Gayle resulted in a red card, and from there it was very difficult for Crystal Palace to keep up. In the second half goals from Manuel Lanzini and Dimitri Payet decided the match.
Watford 0 Arsenal 3: Watford are a pretty good defensive team, but Arsenal are playing the best football in the Premier League right now, and got what they were working for in the second half with goals from Alexis Sanchez, Olivier Giroud and Aaron Ramsey in the span of 13 minutes, as the Watford defense slowly opened up in an attempt to get something going offensively.
