Carlos Gonzalez

It was a fantastic bounce back season for Carlos Gonzalez on the Colorado Rockies, bringing in plenty of trade interest from the Baltimore Orioles and Washington Nationals.

The Orioles have put in a few inquiries, but they’ll probably have to give up Kevin Gausman in order to make it happen, something that for now, they’re not willing to do.

The Nationals have doen the same. They were scared by how much the Rockies have been asking for the slugger. Even though they’re looking to shed off a salary like this, it’s hard finding the right kind of deal to make it work.

Gonzalez, recently turning 30, had an excellent season with 40 home runs and 97 RBIs while batting .271 and winning the Silver Slugger award, the second of his career. He’s also a three-time All-Star and two-time Gold Glove winner, hitting .290 for his career with 176 career home runs. He’s owed $37 million over the next two seasons, which makes it complicated to work out a deal. His rookie season was in 2008 with the A’s, but has been playing for the Rockies since 2009.
