Just like they’ve been doing lately, the Chicago Cubs bombarded the St. Louis Cardinals with runs, while we have one less undefeated pitcher as Chris Sale dropped a game for the Chicago White Sox, a first this season, falling against the Cleveland Indians and Josh Tomlin.
Tampa Bay Rays 4 Miami Marlins 3: Jake Odorizzi allowed only two hits while striking out seven batters, also picking up the first RBI of the game. Giancarlo Stanton hit his 12th home run of the season, but it wasn’t enough for more than an effort to tie the game.
Toronto Blue Jays 0 New York Yankees 6: The Yankees win number six in a row with a shutout, the win going to Nathan Eovaldi. Carlos Beltran hit his 10th home run of the season, and his ground out in the first inning opened the scoring for the Yankees, back at .500.
New York Mets 4 Washington Nationals 7: Stephen Strasburg improved to 8-0 this season, striking out 11 in 6.2 innings. The Nationals supported him with five home runs, including number seven this season for Daniel Murphy.
Chicago Cubs 12 St. Louis Cardinals 3: Jason Hammel had a fantastic day on the mound, allowing only four hits in 7.1 innings. Jorge Soler hit a home run and even Hammel himself had a couple of RBIs thanks to a two-run double in the first inning.
Arizona Diamondbacks 1 Pittsburgh Pirates 12: Francisco Liriano did a good job to keep the Diamondbacks from bothering the Pirates offensive performance, as Gregory Polanco drove in five runs, including three in a home run off of the struggling Shelby Miller in the first inning.
Colorado Rockies 3 Boston Red Sox 8: David Price keeps on going with his fantastic season in terms of avoiding losses (his ERA is 5.34). That’s what run support is for: David Ortiz gets four RBIs, twice scoring two players in the first four innings of the game.
Philadelphia Phillies 1 Detroit Tigers 3: Justin Verlander had one of his best performances in a while, allowing three hits while striking out 10 in eight innings. Miguel Cabrera carried on with his fantastic form, driving in two runs.
Milwaukee Brewers 2 Atlanta Braves 1: The Brewers won thanks to an 8th inning single by Scooter Gennett, as Julio Teheran striking out 12 batters went to waste in another home loss for the Braves.
Los Angeles Angels 1 Texas Rangers 4: Martin Perez held the Angels scoreless in his six innings, and a Nomar Mazara two-run homer helped the Rangers get some distance for the win.
Cleveland Indians 6 Chicago White Sox 2: Chris Sale fails to win, leaving the game after less than four innings in a duel between unbeaten pitchers. Josh Tomlin struck out six and allowed five hits in eight innings, while Mike Napoli had a good day with two hits and two RBIs.
Kansas City Royals 7 Minnesota Twins 4: Lorenzo Cain got four hits and two RBIs while Salvador Perez hit a two-run homer as the Royals keep the Twins in the basement of major league baseball.
Baltimore Orioles 2 Houston Astros 3: The game dragged on into the 13th inning before Carlos Correa hit a shallow single to center, scoring one and giving the Astros the walk-off win.
San Diego Padres 2 San Francisco Giants 8: The Giants have the longest winning streak in the National League, getting Jeff Samardzija to put on another nice show for almost 7 innings, while Brandon Crawford got four RBIs and Jarrett Parker hit his first home run of the season.
Oakland Athletics 5 Seattle Mariners 6: The Mariners fell three runs behind in the sixth, but home runs from Robinson Cano (13th of the season) and another by Leonys Martin, both of them scoring one more player with them, turned things around and set them straight.
Cincinnati Reds 2 Los Angeles Dodgers 8: Justin Turner kicked things off for the Dodgers, the Reds answered back with a two-run homer, which resulted in seven straight runs by the Dodgers, including Joc Pederson hitting an RBI single followed by him stealing third and getting home thanks to an error.
