Fernandez, 24, made his first All-Star game this season, starting a career high 29 games and pitching 182.1 innings. He had a terrific 2.86 ERA through the 2016, confirming he is well on his way to become one of the best pitchers in baseball, not to mention in line for a massive extension soon.
Fernandez was born in Cuba and played his high school baseball in Tampa. He’s been with the Marlins organization since 2011, making his MLB debut in 2013.
