Game 3 of the 2016 World Series had a dejavu feel to it, as the Chicago Cubs couldn’t score a run against the Cleveland Indians for the second time in the series, something the meme makers didn’t fail to notice.
Most of the jokes weren’t directed at that. Goats, curses, you know the drill. Crying Jordan on Cubs fans for being the losers they are, or for simply paying an incredible amount of money to see their team lose, and find themselves behind for the second time in a week without being able to score a run.
The good news? The Cubs struggled hitting the ball in their previous two series, and won. They were behind 2-1 after two consecutive shutouts in their NLCS with the Dodgers and came back. Having little rest between the games at home might be good for the Cubs, especially as their problem has been mainly the Indians bullpen.
But overall, it’s been difficult for Chicago to get hits consistently in this postseason. Maybe it’s fixable, and maybe they’re already down the slippery slope too far to slow down. The Indians keep heading into series with people counting them out way too early. That’s not smart to do with their incredible pitching talent.
