The haters complained that the Dallas Cowboys weren’t beating any good teams. So they ran all over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Meme makers are happy, Ezekiel Elliott is running for MVP, while Dak Prescott has an even firmer hold over the starting quarterback job, which means Tony Romo stays on the sidelines.
The big story of the Cowboys 35-30 dramatic win over the Steelers is Elliott, a rookie running back who is the first in the league to reach 1000 yards this season. Yes, he has the help of the best offensive line in the league, but it takes a good quarterback to take advantage of what’s given to him. Elliott is doing that and more with terrific speed and vision.
Another story are the Steelers. Ben Roethlisberger actually played well, and his touchdown pass to Antonio Brown almost won it for Pittsburgh in the end of a wild fourth quarter. But the defense collapsed, and the offense missed out on too many opportunities. Not for the first time this season, Roethlisberger criticized the coaching.
And then there’s Romo and Prescott. Romo is happy for Prescott doing well, I’m sure. He’s not faking it on the sidelines. But in the same time, he’s watching his starting QB job slipping out of his hands. He can’t do anything about it while Prescott plays well and the Cowboys are winning. This is how Romo got the job in the first place just over 10 years ago. History repeats itself, only this time Romo is on the unhappy end.
