College Football Scores & Standings

The College Football regular season is pretty much over except for the Big 12. Ohio State beat Michigan in the biggest event of rivalry week, which means both teams won’t play for the Big Ten title (Penn State and Wisconsin will), while the Buckeyes remain in the playoff picture. Alabama beat Auburn in a meaningless Iron Bowl, but the important stuff happened in the Pac-12, where Colorado beat Utah to ensure a spot in the final, while Washington did the same by beating Washington State.

#13 Auburn 12  #1 Alabama 30: Auburn managed to hang with Alabama for one half, but couldn’t score a touchdown, and the defense wasn’t going to win the game for them. The Crimson Tide finish the season undefeated while winning the Iron Bowl for the third consecutive season, holding Auburn to just 182 yards.

#3 Michigan 27  #2 Ohio State 30: Football rivalries are made of games like these, going to double overtime, won with a come from behind touchdown from Curtis Samuel. Michigan and Jim Harbaugh will complain, the Buckeyes might have gotten away with some holding, but in the end, it doesn’t matter: Both teams won’t play for the Big Ten title, although Ohio State still have a shot at making the college football playoffs.

South Carolina 7  #2 Clemson 56: The Tigers didn’t hold back on their way to the ACC title game, handing the Gamecocks their worst loss in this rivalry since 1900 (51-0). Deshaun Watson threw six touchdown passes, and will now face a difficult Virginia Tech team, hoping it’s enough to make the playoffs.

#5 Washington 45  #23 Washington State 17: The biggest Apple Cup game in recent memory was a disappointing blowout, which kept the Huskies on one loss, and sent them to the Pac-12 title game, facing Colorado. A win there, and it’ll be hard to keep them out of the college football playoffs.

Minnesota 17  #6 Wisconsin 31: A pretty good Minnesota season didn’t end with them breaking their losing streak in the rivalry game against Wisconsin. The Gophers led 17-7 at halftime, but couldn’t get anything going in the second half, giving up three touchdowns in the final quarter, including a couple to Corey Clement, who also ran for 100 yards.

Michigan State 12  #7 Penn State 45: The Nittany Lions are in the Big Ten title game, struggling in the first half but enjoying the Spartans (who finished the season 3-9) losing their starting quarterback and running back to injuries during the game. 

#22 Utah 22  #9 Colorado 27: Not for the first time, Utah fizzle out at the end of the season, while the Buffaloes will go to the Pac-12 title game, facing Washington. It’s Colorado’s best season in the Pac-12, and first 10-win season since 2001.

Kentucky 41  #11 Louisville 38: The Wildcats stun a sloppy Louisville team to win their first Governor’s Cup game since 2010. Austin MacGinnis hit the game winning field goal with 12 seconds to go after Lamar Jackson had a huge fumble, that might cost him the Heisman award.

Notre Dame 27  #12 USC 45: The Trojans finish the season with 8 consecutive wins and undefeated at home, although it won’t put them in the Pac-12 title game. Sam Darnold, Ronald Jones II and the defense looked great, sending the Fighting Irish to their first losing season under Brian Kelly, who might be gone at the end ofthe year. 

#15 Florida 13  #14 Florida State 31: No ACC title game for FSU this season, but at least they handed Florida a huge blow to their playoff hopes, even if they actually win the SEC and beat Alabama. It’s the 4th consecutive win for the Seminoles over the Gators, and their sixth in the last seven years.

#16 Nebraska 10  Iowa 40: The Cornhuskers wouldn’t have made the Big Ten title game even had they won because the Wisconsin win later on, but they really looked awful in Iowa City, finishing with just 217 yards, unable to handle C.J. Beathard and LeShun Daniels Jr. Iowa finish the season with eight wins; it’s not 2015, but not a bad comedown season.

#17 Tennessee 34  Vanderbilt 45: An embarrassing loss for the Vols , who finish the season with a disappointing 4-4 record in the SEC, and suddenly puts Butch Jones in an unfamiliar position: No longer as a popular savior of a program, but of a man holding it back.

#18 West Virginia 49  Iowa State 19: Close but not enough for the Mountaineers, having their best Big 12 season and improving to a 9-2 record, getting five touchdown passes from Skyler Howard as they hope to position themselves for a New Year’s Six bowl game.

#19 Boise State 20  Air Force 27: The Broncos enter each season with dreams of going undefeated. This time, they won’t even win the conference, despite Wyoming losing their second game. Air Force made a ferocious goal line stand to stop the Broncos from tying or winning the game, sending the Cowboys to the MWC championship game instead.

#20 Houston 44  Memphis 48: A third loss this season for the Cougars, who said goodbye to their head coach Tom Herman after the game. After such a promising start, it’s something of an anticlimactic end to the season for Houston, who won’t play for the American conference title, which will be decided between Navy and Temple.

Toledo 35  #21 Western Michigan 55: No problem for the Broncos to finish the job and head on to the MAC title game against Ohio, beating Toledo with an impressive performance by Zach Terrell and Jamauri Bogan, who ran for 198 yards.

Rice 17  #24 Stanford 41: Stanford finish the season at 9-3, in a position to win 10 games for the fifth time under David Shaw, who has never won less than 8 games with the Cardinal.

SMU 31  #25 Navy 71: Navy ran the ball and never really stopped, finishing with 496 yards on the ground and 9 rushing touchdowns, setting themselves up for a game in the American Conference title match.
