Another one bites the dust. For the second time in as many months, a sports power couple has called it quits. Tennis player Maria Kirilinko broke off her wedding with hockey stud Alex Ovechkin. She addressed the issue in a statement today.

“I have decided to terminate the engagement, – said Maria. – There are many reasons, but do not want to go into details.’ll Say one thing: our relationship completed, but I respect Sasha as a person and athlete and I sincerely wish him continued athletic success.”
“I am currently also focused on preparing for the next tournament and I hope that will soon be able to please their fans news, not only about his personal life, but also about his athletic success,”
The news isn’t that big of a surprise to those of us who follow Maria Kirilenko on social media. There has been no mention of Ovechkin for quite some time on her Twitter and Instagram accounts (she went quiet for a few weeks at the end of June). This, from a woman who shares literally every moment of her life with fans.
Rumors began circulating last week that the two had called it quits. Fans began flooding her Instagram account with questions about Ovie. Finally, this popped on Twitter today.
She doesn’t seem too broken up about calling off the wedding. That or she’s really good at hiding it. Here’s some pics from the last week.
