trojan-condoms-trojan-man-costume

SunSentinel-

In the latest chapter of ‘The Ferocious Pussification of America’ we have a student wearing a harmless Trojan Condoms costume to school for “Character Day” and being told by teachers it’s unacceptable.

Surprise, surprise: this took place down in Florida.

Jack Englund is a senior at Dr. Phillips High School in Orlando, Florida, a magnet school for the gifted. Englund is already an accomplished tuba player, seventeen years old, and nearly on his way to college. So why teachers felt the need to censor him when he showed up as ‘Trojan Man’ for his schools “Character Day” is a bit perplexing to everyone involved (aside from the school administrators).

The Sun-Sentinel’s Lauren Roth has the story:

Jack Englund dressed as Trojan Man for “character day” at Dr. Phillips High School on Tuesday, wearing a red cape and a blue poster board decorated to look like a condom wrapper.

The senior said he was simply trying to bring a safe-sex message to his classmates. But school officials were not amused. His first-period teacher sent him to the office, where a dean made him remove the costume.

“I don’t see how my piece of cardboard and cape are any more distracting” than costumes such as Mario, Luigi and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles worn by other students, he said. Students dress up during Spirit Week activities that precede homecoming.

The principal did not respond to a request for comment, but district spokeswoman Kathy Marsh said school officials may prevent students from wearing anything that may “cause an undue disruption to the normal order of classroom business.” Sexual wording and graphics are also banned under the student dress code.

For now can we all just agree that this is an egregious abuse of power from school administrators, and by censoring his ‘safe sex’ message they might in fact be putting the students in more danger of making mistakes? Good, glad we can all agree on that. It’s also another display in the Pussification of America, where for some reason we’re allowed to carry assault rifles in the streets (if you’re 18) but we can’t wear a piece of cardboard with a word on it….the logic totally checks out.
