The Phoenix Suns have already gotten rid of one Morris twin (Marcus) by trading him to the Detroit Pistons. As expected, his brother Markieff Morris isn’t happy, and will probably find himself a new team as soon as possible.
Knowing a player wants out, reportedly not even talking to the staff or players, doesn’t really help when negotiating a trade, but this has been known for quite some time that the better of the Morris brothers isn’t happy in Phoenix and wants out, while the team itself has been contemplating it since the season ended and probably even before that.
Morris started in all 82 games for the Suns last season, averaging 15.3 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. His per minute and per possession numbers dropped with the extra minutes coming in. He’s also on a $32 million, four-year contract that begins in 2015, which isn’t going to be a whole lot once the big salary cap raise kicks in.
Morris isn’t a bad player. He’s quite useful actually, and if his attitude and whatever wavelength he’s broadcasting on would have fit the team the Suns would have enjoyed having him for the next few years. But sometimes things can’t be fixed, and there seems to be actual hate between him, Jeff Hornacek and probably others on the team, be it players and management/staff. While finding a trade right now that “pays” the Suns his actual value will be difficult, they should be able to move him somewhere and maybe get better by subtraction.
