While Chris Johnson may still be hoping the Dallas Cowboys reach out and try to sign him, it seems the Arizona Cardinals are actually making an offer for him, something he might not get from anyone else in the league.
Dianna Marie Russini is reporting that the Cardinals have made a one-year offer for the running back who played for the New York Jets last season and was released. Johnson was injured in a drive by shooting on his car that also claimed the life of his friend Dreekius Oricko Johnson.
Johnson has recovered from his shoulder injury and has been waiting for someone to pick up the phone and make the call.
The Cardinals need a running back, something that’s been a problem for them for quite some time. It’s not quite clear if Johnson is still capable of being the focal point of a rushing offense, finishing with just 663 yards last season in New York, although he did get only 155 carries, after getting used to around 300 or more during his time with the Titans.
Johnson still thinks he’s good enough to rush for 1000 yards or more and be as good as he was during his better days in Tennessee. No one is willing to actually gamble a lot of money on that, but at least the Cardinals are willing to give him a chance. Johnson was hoping that some team with an injury during training camp would turn to him, but his opportunity is coming even sooner than he expected.
