The injuries keep coming around the NFL, and the next notable season-ending case belongs to the Dallas Cowboys, with cornerback Orlando Scandrick tearing his ACL, which means missing the entire 2015 NFL season.
Scandrick, about to enter his eighth season with the Cowboys, went for a pass intended for Luke Whitehead. Scandrick was headed to the ground, and Whitehead’s momentum made the hit and crash even harder. Scandrick immediately knew it was his ACL that was gone, putting more pressure on a defensive unit that wasn’t one of the best in the NFL last season.
With Scandrick now out, it’ll be second-year cornerback Tyler Patmon that likely gets the starting spot. It will also mean we’ll see more of free agency signing Corey White getting some time on the field. Patmon, an undrafted rookie last year, played 11 times in 2014, picking off one pass. White has been with the New Orleans Saints over the last three years, playing in 41 games and producing 4 interceptions and 16 pass deflections.
Scandrick had two interceptions and one sack last season for Dallas in 14 starts. He signed a deal worth $19 million in May, taking him through the 2019 season, with $3 million in guaranteed money. His salary can be downgraded by $1 million in each year he fails to complete workouts.
