Evan Mathis

The Philadelphia Eagles releasing Evan Mathis didn’t result in a quick pick up for the two-time Pro Bowler and one-time All-Pro, but things are heating up with offensive line for a number of teams, putting the Kansas City Chiefs, Tennessee Titans and Seattle Seahawks on his trail.

Mathis initially had a problem getting someone to pay him the $5.5 million he was missing out in Philadelphia after they released him. But with preseason and training camp creating injuries and problems for the teams, Mathis’ value is on the up.

The Chiefs are likely to offer a deal worth around $20 million overall for Mathis, despite his age of 33 and recent injuries, although that won’t come with too much of a guarantee. Mathis has already been in contact a number of times with the Miami Dolphins, but nothing was settled.

Mathis’ next visit is with the Seahawks who have offensive problems of their own at more than just one position, who are also likely to be strong in the hunt for him.

Early on it seemed like Mathis was getting interest from just one team, the Dolphins, and that meant taking a significant pay cut. Now, with three of four teams trying to sign him, he might be even able to improve his conditions from the deal he had cancelled with the Eagles.
