It’s one big mess for the Washington Redskins regarding Robert Griffin III, but whatever it happening wit him is helping Kirk Cousins move closer towards landing the starting quarterback job for the beginning of the season.
Not that it’ll make a big difference if the offensive line remains a huge problem as it’s been over the last couple of seasons. But Griffin didn’t play in the 31-13 win over the Baltimore Ravens. Coming back from a concussion, he was cleared to play two days before the game against Baltimore and mysteriously removed from eligibility a day after.
But solving mysteries isn’t the job of a head coach. Jay Gruden needs to find a way for the Redskins to start winning games, something they haven’t done a lot of in the last two seasons. Maybe with Cousins taking the helm right off the bat things will be better?
He did look good in helping the Redskins take a 14-13 lead into the half. He completed 20-of-27 passes for 190 yards. He threw one touchdown pass Jamison Crowder, although it was off a deflection Crowder took out of the air. It was Cousins second touchdown pass of the preseason. He also threw one interception.
Colt McCoy had an efficient appearance with two touchdown passes while completing 10-of-12 passes for 95 yards, but that came against the Ravens reserves, including one touchdown drive that was only 20 yards long following an interception.
The running game got 111 yards on 34 carries, but Alfred Morris looked bad with just four yards on 7 attempts. The scary moment of the game came in the first half with a nasty tackle out of the WWE by Keenan Robinson of the Redskins, slamming receiver Kamar Aiken on the pitch head first after a reception, leading to some shoving and arguing between the players.
