MLB Standings & Scores

The Chicago Cubs finally beat the Chicago White Sox, becoming the first team to win 60 games this season, giving Aroldis Chapman his debut. The Detroit Tigers beat the Boston Red Sox off of a ninth inning Miguel Cabrera home run, and the Pittsburgh Pirates dominated the Seattle Mariners thanks to a strong nine-inning day from Gerrit Cole, and a Andrew McCutchen home run.

Washington Nationals 4  Cleveland Indians 1: In 7 innings of work, Stephen Strasburg allowed only 3 hits while striking out 7, supporting the offense that got the 20th home run this season out of Daniel Murphy and three RBIs from Trea Turner.

Philadelphia Phillies 1  Miami Marlins 4: Giancarlo Stanton hit a two-run homer, and was one of three players with two RBIs for the Marlins. Adam Conley did a good job in 6.2 innings of work, striking out 5.

San Diego Padres 8  Toronto Blue Jays 4: Three home runs from the Padres, including a two-run homer by Adam Rosales, kept them out of touch for the Blue Jays. Brett Wallace had a strong day too, with two RBIs, including one off a solo homer.

Detroit Tigers 4  Boston Red Sox 3: The game with two lead changes ended up being decided in the 9th inning, first with Miguel Cabrera hitting his 21st home run to put the Tigers in front, followed by Justin Wilson doing the closing, picking up the save.

Chicago White Sox 1  Chicago Cubs 8: The Cubs make it to 60 wins this season with a strong, 7-inning start from Jason Hammel, a debut from Aroldis Chapman (striking out 2 in one inning) and three home runs, including number 26 this season for Kris Bryant, and a two-run homer by Javier Baez.

Tampa Bay Rays 3  Los Angeles Dodgers 1: Matt Moore, still on the trading block, threw five strikes in 6.2 innings, while Evan Longoria hit a two-run homer to erase the early Dodgers lead. Luke Maile hit another RBI to make the win look more convincing.

Cincinnati Reds 2  San Francisco Giants 1: Another home run for Jay Bruce, making it six in his last five games, with at least one in each. It’s his 25th this season, as the Reds held the Giants to just four hits, mainly due to the excellent work of Dan Straily through 7.2 innings.

Colorado Rockies 3  Baltimore Orioles 1: A decent job from Jon Gray on the mound through 7 innings, and home runs from Nick Hundley and David Dahl, meant that three leaders in the AL East lost on the same day.

Seattle Mariners 1  Pittsburgh Pirates 10: Gerrit Cole pitched a complete game, allowing only three hits, aided by a strong day from Andrew McCutchen, hitting a three run homer and finishing with 4 RBIs overall, making to 15 and 42 this season.

St. Louis Cardinals 5  New York Mets 4: The Mets held a 4-3 lead heading into the 9th, but a Yadier Molina double tied the game, and Kolten Wong in pinch hitting duty got the winning RBI, followed by Seung Hwan Oh picking up the save.

Oakland Athletics 6  Texas Rangers 4: Sean Manaea struck out 9 batters but also gave up 11 hits and three runs. The A’s mostly leaned on Khris Davis, hitting two home runs and finishing with 3 RBIs, making it to 25 this season. Coco Crisp hit a two-run homer as well.

Arizona Diamondbacks 8  Milwaukee Brewers 1: It’s always weird to see the Diamondbacks winning, but it does happen. Yasmany Tomas hit two home runs for five RBIs, and Archie Bradley did a good job in 7 innings, allowing 4 hits and striking out 6.

Atlanta Braves 9  Minnesota Twins 7: The Braves win again in the battle of the worst, getting 4 RBIs off of home runs from Jeff Francoeur and Freddie Freeman. Nick Markakis hit an RBI single in the 8th that relieved a lot of pressure, making it too difficult for the Twins to catch up.

New York Yankees 1  Houston Astros 4: Lance McCullers struck out 10 batters in six innings of work, while Colby Rasmus hit a two-run homer. The Yankees finished with just five hits, being the fourth out of five in the division to lose on the day.

Los Angeles Angels 5  Kansas City Royals 7: The Royals bounce back from a humiliating day, but it might be too late for the playoffs, unless something miraculous happens. Pitching errors in the 7th and 8th did most of the damage for the Angels, who did manage 11 hits, but were only 3-for-14 with runners in scoring positions.
