The Kansas City Chiefs came away with a 14-13 win over the Seattle Seahawks, but Alex Smith had a mixed performance playing behind a makeshift offensive line, that should be better and healthier when the season begins.
Left tackle Eric Fisher and right guard Jeff Allen are currently injured, and their replacements, especially Paul Fanaika, didn’t do too well, constantly pushed off the line of scrimmage, while Laurent Duvernay-Tardiff was manhandled at guard.
Smith threw one touchdown pass but also an interception that was returned for a touchdown. He finished the game completing 11-of-18 passes for 81 yards, while Chase Daniel, who had a very strong performance in week 1, faired well once again with 8-of-12 and one touchdown pass.
One thing the Chiefs should be happy with is Jeremy Maclin, and on a wider scale is that they have a wide receiver to throw touchdowns to after an abysmal record on that account last season. Smith found Maclin for the opening score of the game in the second quarter, and the former Eagles receiver finished with three receptions for 22 yards. Daniel completed a touchdown pass to James O’Shaughnessy in the third quarter that won the game.
