Ryan Fitzpatrick

Despite beating the Atlanta Falcons 30-22, it wasn’t a confidence-building performance for the New York Jets, as Ryan Fitzpatrick, the designated starting quarterback while Geno Smith is injured, didn’t do very well until the backups started showing up on defense.

Fitzpatrick completed 13-of-19 passes without a touchdown or an interception, while Bryce Petty who came on after him did a little bit better, although against weaker opposition on defense.

The Jets only started putting up points in the second quarter. It began with Leonard Williams, the first round pick out of USC, producing two points via a safety, followed by a big run by Chris Ivory (33 yards) for the touchdown and Fitzpatrick finding Brandon Marshall on the two point conversion.

Ivory didn’t do much on the next four carries he had in the game, while Marshall had a good outing with four receptions and 62 yards.

Besides Williams having a good day on defense with 1.5 sacks and that safety, Jamari Lattimore picked off T.J. Yates and returned it for 37 yards. At the moment, once again, the Jets look like they have a much more competent defense than offense.
